Hunting and Fishing
In Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Trout Fishing near Pagosa Springs, Circa 1910

The Pagosa Springs area offers some of the best hunting and fishing in Colorado.

The first obvious choice is the San Juan River, which meanders through the middle of town.  Then there's the Piedra River roughly 15 miles west, which offers some of the most pristine trout waters anywhere.

But area lakes also provide excellent fishing.  Williams Lake Reservoir, which is at the end of a beautiful 30-mile drive through the National Forest, has Rainbow and Brook Trout as long as your arm.  It also features Kokanee Salmon.

And the Gem of Archuleta County is Navajo Lake, a scenic 35-mile drive south of Pagosa Springs.  This lake borders New Mexico and offers excellent fishing plus house-boating, water skiing, and camping.  Catfish, crappie and smallmouth bass swim in the shallows and near the lake surface. Kokanee salmon, northern pike and many varieties of trout are found in deep waters.
